Christian online dating: how to spot a serious profile

Published · 5 min read

Meeting online is today a perfectly normal path to a relationship and marriage, among believers too. But as anywhere, you need to tell sincere people from those who aren't. Here's what to look for — from the first glance at a profile to the first meeting.

Signs of a serious profile

  • A real photo of their face — ideally several photos from everyday life, not just studio shots.
  • A description that says something concrete: what they do, what they love, how they live their faith, what they are looking for.
  • A clear intention — a serious relationship, marriage, family.
  • Consistency: age, place and stories match what they say in messages.
  • A verified profile, if the app offers it.

What a verified profile means in Holymeet

Members can verify themselves by taking a selfie with a gesture the app asks for, which the admins compare with the profile photos. A verified profile gets a badge. It isn't a guarantee that someone is a good person, but it does mean they are real and that the photos are really them.

In addition, profiles without a photo aren't shown to others in Holymeet, and the profile photo must show the person's face. Messages open only on a mutual like, so nobody can write to someone who doesn't want it.

Red flags

  • Asking for money or any kind of financial help — whatever the story. Never send money to someone you haven't met in person.
  • Wanting to move the conversation off the app straight away, to a private number or another network.
  • Avoiding a video call or meeting for months.
  • Over-the-top declarations of love after a few days of messaging.
  • Stories that don't add up — job, place or family change from message to message.
  • Pressure for intimate photos or content.
  • Talking about faith only in general terms and dodging every specific question.

Safety rules

  • Don't share your home address, bank details or documents.
  • Make the first meeting in a public place, in daylight if possible.
  • Tell a friend or family member where you'll be and with whom.
  • Arrive and leave with your own transport.
  • Build trust gradually — a serious person won't mind.

If something is wrong

Trust your instincts. In Holymeet you can block and report someone: blocking removes the match and the conversation, and reports are reviewed by the admins. You don't have to explain or justify anything — your safety matters more than someone else's discomfort.

Seriousness starts with you

Offer what you expect from others: a real photo, a few honest sentences about yourself and your faith, and a clear intention. An honest profile attracts honest people — and saves everyone time.
